LOSS OF KINETIC ENERGY DUE TO OBLIQUE IMPACT OF TWO SMOOTH SPHERES

  • Two spheres of masses m1 and m2, moving with velocities u1 and u2 angles (alpha)𝝰1 and 𝝰2 with their line of centres, come into collision.   To find an expression for the loss of kinetic energy:
  •   The velocities perpendicular to the line of centres are not altered by impact.  Hence then loss of kinetic energy in the case of oblique impact is therefore the same as in the case of direct impact if we replace in the expression (4) on Loss of kinetic energy due to direct impact of two smooth spheres, the quantities u1 and u2 by u1 cos𝝰1 and u2 cos𝝰2 respectively. equation in pdf.
  •  We shall now derive this independently.
  •   just explain in pdf file.
